Footprints in Recovery
is a very small, Private,  recovery rehab home for those suffering with the bonds of addiction. Treatment centers are very successful in helping alcoholics recover while in a safe, personal and loving private environment.

From the moment you walk in the door, you feel safe and comfortable as this becomes your home along with us. Peace, comfortable surroundings and spirit filled air is here. It is a " Home like setting"  rather than a hospital like setting which aides you to relax and open up your feelings and mind to rid yourself of the baggage you have been carrying for a long time.

While all around you the atmosphere of the area is rich in ocean scenery, wildlife, beautiful beaches, Kite boarders zipping over the Pamlico Sound, Cape Hatteras Anglers Club fishing tournament competitors congregating on the beach, and cars of snowbirds headed south line up at the ferry docks in Hatteras village. The outer banks is known for its game fishing experience and waves that everyone dreams of for surfing while remaining sunny and inviting.

Our focus is to provide the tools for addicts to become free from the stronghold of the addictive bonds.  We offer two tracks at our program, a recovery track with the basis being spiritually based on the "Higher Power  of the traditional 12 steps programs and the Christian track program which allows you to be able to get a higher connection with emphasis on the Christian 12 steps program.  We give our residents the tools that they need to reach recovery and assist them with getting on with life

Our highly skilled multi disciplinary teams and staff address your holistic needs: spiritually, social, mental and emotional over a 30-60 day time frame. We also have an extended  care program that allows for housing and a sober living facility.

We offer two homes separated by gender with six beds each. Our homes are located on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina, just blocks from the beach. You will receive individual attention as you travel through the12 Steps of Recovery and in the Christian Track we use the Celebrate Recovery Bible as it is incorporated as part of this program. Addiction affects everyone, those in the addiction, their families and their friends.

I have set before you a life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose LIFE.

Deuteronomy 30:19

Footprints in Recovery we have a LIFE  approach. There are four corners to building a strong faith based drug and alcohol rehab program . These four corners are the corners to rebuilding your recovery  LIFE.

L - Living in Faith

One of the most important things you can do when you decide that you need a drug and alcohol treatment, is to work 12 steps.  At times you may feel abandoned by your Higher Power, angry, or even feel like you are being punished but these feeling are due to the loss of control of LIFE and the consequence of this disease.   Learning to develop a stronger relationship with your higher power is essential and you can grow stronger through our program.  In the Christian track we know that through the Christian 12 steps, bible and Christian foundations in a recovery program, you will learn to have a stronger relationship with him. Faith based drug and alcohol programs are one of the key foundations to rebuilding your LIFE in recovery that that is free from its strongholds. Know that you are not alone. We will assist you to strengthen  your walk of faith in action through our Christian track

I-Individual Therapy

Our individual therapy, is the next cornerstone to rebuilding this strong recovery foundation . We believe that having an individual therapist, at Pathways Counseling Center, whom we independently contract, the therapists are NC licensed drug and alcohol treatment specialists. At our recovery home, our belief that addiction is not a choice but is a treatable disease. Through these individual sessions you will discover your addiction origins and how to have long term sobriety.  Our “approach” is to meet the client where they are in life, to find out what their goals are and then help them learn HOW their life can change. HOW requires the ability to become “honest, open-minded and willing”.  That phrase is straight out of the little slogans heard in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous”.

F-Family Therapy

The third cornerstone in your recovery journey is working with our family therapist. Here at Footprints In Recovery we believe that the families play a major role in our drug and alcohol recovery process. Our independently contracted NC Licensed family therapist is  Barb Getchell DCSW,LCSW. Her previous experience includes working in the field with leaders in the field including the founding Medical Director of the Betty Ford Center and John Bradshaw who authored “Healing the Shame That Binds You” and “Homecoming For the Inner Child”.  With these experts Barb is part of a team that conducts seminars and treatment workshops around the US and Canada.  In the 90's she opened and directed Center Peace ®, a week long retreat for family members.  She and a team of therapists utilized her model to bring God’s peace to those who loved alcoholics and addicts and their family members through specialized therapy and education. In 2000 she opened a private practice on the Outer Banks of NC where she continued this work on an outpatient basis with survivors of abuse and  included adolescent substance abusers with the SAFE Program (Substance Abuse Family Education) and Outer Banks Hotline sponsored programs. Barb Getchell trains interns and students in this model of family therapy.  She has been a faculty member of Eastern Virginia Medical School and  lectured at many programs of higher education, including Regent University (which is affiliated with the Christian Broadcasting Network), Old Dominion University, Virginia Wesleyan University, University of North Carolina and Duke University’s programs.

She now shares her expertise as our Family  Program Coordinator and leads the monthly  Retreat for the families of residents of our Recovery Homes. She will also will maintain contact with family members throughout the residents’ stay. She has developed a specific family program designed to bridge the gap between the addict and their families and rebuild some of the lost communication, trust and hurt that both have suffered in this disease. As everyone has been affected by this family disease, you learn to reconnect with your family and community.

E-Education In Addiction

The forth and last key piece to this foundation is education in addiction through educational groups and exercises. We use the traditional 12 step approach. In the Christian track we utilize the Christian twelve steps as these 12 Steps are the process for letting God change your life. You learn how to recovery with education in Nutrition, medication and various coping skills mechanisms. Here at Footprints In Recovery we believe that the focus is on helping your get well and learn to live in sobriety rather than the bonds of addictions  and we learn how to live life again. Here the addict learns what the disease concept means, healthy supports, what there triggers are. Addiction groups are taught by our Registered Nurse, who is currently active on a nurse advisory pharmaceutical board for mental health and addiction medications. Her experience includes over 13 years working in drug and alcohol recovery and mental health field, and her experience includes working for the CRC Health Group, which has the largest facilities in the US, and community and public health. Also as the one of the owners and administrator, her belief is that this disease is treatable and you can learn to live a life that is clean and sober with a loving caring environment in which you can recover in safely. Small, private groups are the key for everyone to learn this allows individualized attention to each clients specific needs. We also attend beach groups if the weather is permitting as the ocean is inviting and assists you in working on serenity. This is not who you are ,this is who you have become through this dreaded disease of addiction. Education is key to any success in drug and alcohol recovery. Individual and small learning environments along with a motivational teacher with a strong background in addiction is another one of the greatest assets to being here.
